The College had a clear brief, new science laboratories that would genuinely change how students learn, built to a standard that reflected the school's expectations, and delivered without disrupting a campus that runs five days a week. That combination of quality, functionality, and live site management is what made this job worth doing right.

Science Laboratories Design and Construction

We were appointed as head contractor for the full design and construction scope. Twelve months on site, 25 specialists. The laboratories were designed and built to incorporate Green Star environmental principles, natural light, ventilation, and energy performance built into the fabric of the building, not added on as an afterthought. Lab-specific requirements covered specialist joinery, chemical-resistant bench surfaces, fume cupboard installations, gas and electrical services to each workstation, and safety compliance across every space. The finished laboratories are now one of the most-used facilities on campus.

What a Science Laboratory Actually Needs to Work

A science lab is not a classroom with benches. The services that run through it, gas lines, emergency safety showers, eyewash stations, fume extraction, electrical to every workstation, all have to be coordinated in the structure before the fit-out goes in. Get the rough-in wrong and you're cutting into finished work to fix it. The design and construct delivery model here meant the construction sequence was planned around how the labs would actually be used, not retrofitted after the fact.

Building on a Live School Campus in Randwick

The College stayed open throughout. That means construction noise had to be managed around the school day, deliveries coordinated so they didn't land during class time, and the site boundary maintained so students never had access to the works. Randwick is a dense suburb, there was nowhere to stage materials off-site. Everything was managed within the footprint, and it was handed over on time.
