Woolloomooloo is a different kind of job. You've got the wharf on one side, a working hotel precinct on the other, and a shared driveway that residents and guests use every single day. Nothing can stop completely. The bollards across the site were corroded, broken, and in some cases gone entirely. The concrete underneath them wasn't in much better shape.

Bollard Replacement

We came in and handled the full scope: removal of every rusted, damaged, and obsolete bollard across the hotel precinct and shared access driveway, then full replacement with new bollards specced for a coastal environment. Eight weeks on site, 14 specialists across the works. The job also covered spalled concrete rectification, grinding, patching, and re-levelling across the driveway and loading areas, plus full reinstatement of line marking — traffic lanes, parking bays, and loading zones along the length of the wharf.

Keeping a Live Site Running

The precinct couldn't close. Residents needed access. Hotel guests were coming and going the whole time we were on site. That meant temporary traffic management running throughout the job, lane closures coordinated around peak times, and every stage planned so the people who live and work there barely noticed the work happening. Get that coordination wrong and you're dealing with complaints before the concrete's even dry.

Coastal Conditions and What They Do to Infrastructure

Salt air accelerates everything. Bollards that might last 15 years inland were already failing here. The concrete was spalling in areas that shouldn't have been a problem yet. When you're replacing infrastructure this close to the water, the spec matters as much as the work itself. We replaced like-for-like in looks, but the materials underneath are built for what Woolloomooloo actually throws at them.
